Accounting Specialist – Real Estate
Job Description
We're partnering with a client in the Galleria area who is looking to add an Accounting Specialist to their team!
Position Details
- Long-term contract role
- Full-time hours with consistent workload
- Compensation: $31 – $35/hour ($64K – $73K annual equivalent), based on experience
- Opportunity to take on additional scope over time
This is a high-volume role—organization, follow-through, and ownership are critical.
We are seeking a strong accounting professional to support a high-volume, multi-site real estate portfolio. This role requires someone who takes ownership, manages large workloads, and keeps processes moving without constant oversight.
This is a hands-on role focused on statements, reconciliations, landlord coordination, and lease-based financial review.
Experience supporting high-volume, multi-site portfolios is required for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Statements & Ledger Review
- Process landlord statements upon receipt
- Reconcile statements and identify variances
- Review ledgers for outstanding balances, discrepancies, and late fees and resolve them
- Comfortable working directly with landlords to research and resolve discrepancies
Check Requests & Payments
- Prepare check requests and credit memos with full supporting backup
- Partner with Accounts Payable to resolve payment issues
- Maintain utility tracking and payments with supporting schedules
Estimates & Variance Management
- Review annual estimate changes and identify variances
- Request updates and supporting documentation from landlords
- Process system adjustments as needed
- Maintain complete, audit-ready documentation
Lease & Contract Review
- Review leases and related agreements to determine financial responsibility
- Interpret lease language related to CAM, OPEX, utilities, and maintenance
- Validate landlord charges against lease terms
- Work with landlords and internal teams to ensure alignment with lease requirements
General Support
- Obtain tax documents and supporting information as needed
- Respond to accounting-related questions from branches and vendors
- Support ongoing portfolio needs and special projects
Reconciliations (CAM / OPEX)
- Track and log reconciliations; coordinate with auditors
- Monitor turnaround timelines and follow up as needed
- Review completed reconciliations for accuracy
- Work with landlords to obtain past-due reconciliations and required backup
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of accounting experience
- Experience supporting high-volume, multi-site portfolios is required
- Experience reviewing leases or contracts for financial terms and responsibilities
- Strong reconciliation and analytical skills
- Ability to identify, research, and resolve variances
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Degree not required — relevant experience is valued
