Job Description
LK Jordan & Associates are seeking a Utility Coordinator / Civil Graduate Engineer for one of our Engineering clients that is HQ’d in Austin, TX. The location is Austin, but the position could be remote or hybrid.
Job Purpose
The Civil Design EIT will be performing many engineering and coordination project duties focusing on Utility network infrastructure such as telecommunications cable and internet fiber lines, electrical power lines, water and wastewater pipes, and oil & gas pipelines in support of City of Austin roadway engineering projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Working on utility relocations & coordination projects in Austin as part of the Corridor Mobility Program
- Continuous coordination and communications in person, by phone & email with clients, designers, and utility representatives to ensure project construction schedules are met
- Analysis of project infrastructure designs such as storm drainage culverts, bridge foundations, trees & landscaping, and roadway widening in comparison to utility infrastructure locations
- Collaborating with urban designers, real estate agents, developers, utility engineers, and roadway engineers to develop the optimal project design solutions
- Mapping, Identifying and Resolving utility conflicts with project infrastructure in the most feasible and time sensitive manner
- Inputting utility information into MicroStation V8i, and creating Utility Layouts & plan sheets for utility relocation designs
- Inputting, formatting, tracking and sharing utility project data in Excel
- Utility designs should be in compliance with federal state and local laws and regulations by becoming well versed with the interpretation of the City of Austin Utilities Criteria Manual, TXDOT's Utility Accommodation Rules, and TXDOT's Utility Manual
Qualifications
Required Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s in Civil, Mechanical, Petroleum, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
- EIT certification or pursuing to obtain within 3 months of hire date
- Planning to pass PE exam within 2 years and pursuing PE licensure in 4 years
- Strong communication skills, scheduling, task management, and problem solving skills
- Exposure/some proficiency with Microstation and/or Geopak, or knowledgeable of AutoCAD
- Proficient in MS Office
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant in the Corridor Program Office and in the Utility Coordination Program
Preferred Qualifications include:
- Internship or 1+ years of working with utility relocations, roadway or drainage design
- Experience working with utility companies, TxDOT and other local client agencies
- Job site field experience
- Ability to work in dynamic team environment on several team projects
