Position Overview
The Steel Warehouseman is responsible for accurately filling customer orders in a safe and timely manner while supporting overall customer satisfaction. This role follows established safety and quality procedures and consistently delivers high standards of service, meeting or exceeding customer expectations on a daily basis.
Essential Duties
Fill customer orders according to pick ticket instructions, verifying size, grade, quantity, and heat numbers
Apply general knowledge of structural steel, pipe, and plate steel
Read, understand, and follow customer-specific instructions listed on pick tickets
Pull material for internal transfers
Load and unload incoming and outgoing trucks
Cut materials for stock and customer orders using saws, shears, ironworkers, and burning tables
Double-check orders to ensure correct materials are selected
Complete required paperwork, customer labels, and equipment inspection reports
Operate all equipment safely and responsibly, report safety concerns to supervision, and maintain a clean and safe work area
Operate forklifts and cranes to move materials
Use basic measuring devices, including tape measures and micrometers
Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to pass background and drug/alcohol screening
Ability to stand, lift, climb, and perform various physical tasks
Ability to handle, lift, and carry steel parts up to 50 lbs.
Ability to work well with others and contribute as a team player
Position requires physical agility, mobility, and dexterity
Ability to accurately perform basic math functions
Ability to read pick tickets, tape measures, and other measuring devices
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
