Shop Helper - Steel Fabrication
South Houston, TX
$17.50/Hour | Full-Time | 1st Shift
Our client is seeking a hardworking and reliable Shop Helper to join their steel fabrication team. This position is ideal for candidates with previous experience working in a steel warehouse, steel service center, metal fabrication shop, or structural steel environment. The successful candidate will assist with daily production operations, material handling, order preparation, and quality control while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
Bilingual English/Spanish candidates are highly preferred due to the company's customer base and workforce.
Responsibilities
- Assist with processing and preparing steel orders for production and shipment
- Read and follow work orders, drawings, and production instructions
- Operate shop equipment and tools safely
- Move materials throughout the facility using forklifts and other material-handling equipment
- Verify material dimensions and specifications using tape measures and other measuring devices
- Inspect finished products for quality, accuracy, and completeness
- Package, label, and prepare orders for delivery
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements
- Previous experience in steel fabrication, steel distribution, metal fabrication, or a related industrial environment required
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure
- Forklift experience preferred
- Basic math and measurement skills
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, bend, reach, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift
- Strong work ethic, attendance, and safety mindset
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
This position is based in a fabrication shop and requires working around steel materials, machinery, and production equipment. Candidates must be comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial setting.
Steel-toe boots are required.
