Assists in setting up and performance of cases by assembly of equipment and supplies according to physician preference cards.
Acts as scrub nurse or assistant to surgeon as directed, maintaining integrity of sterile field.
Acts a circulating nurse in preparing patient for surgery, positioning patient in appropriate position, and moving patient to and from operating table: other duties as directed by Board Runner.
Assists in cleanup of operating room following surgery, including proper disposal of used supplies and sharps, cleaning and decontamination of instruments, equipment and operating room.
Responsible for complete and thorough performance of assigned tasks, addressing specific needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients as necessary.
Performs the perioperative nursing role to include preoperative assessment of the patient, nursing care plan formulation, operative care plan implementation and postoperative evaluation of the patient s response/outcome and of effectiveness and appropriateness of nursing care provided.
Assumes responsibility for intra-operative patient safety related to positioning activities, the use of equipment and use of chemicals and solutions.
Performs surgical counts (sponges, sharps and instruments) and documents nursing care on the legal records.
Performs infection control activities to include observation of the surgical team during procedures, taking corrective actions PRN to maintain aseptic technique.
Assumes responsibility for coordination of a surgical service, updating surgeon s preference cards and instrument lists, in-servicing new procedures and equipment and teaching newly assigned personnel rotating through the surgical service.
Assists anesthesia personnel with the intubation/extubation of patients, the monitoring of fluid/volume balance, administration of blood/blood products and the thermo regulation of the patient.
Monitor patient level of consciousness, electrocardiogram, and BP during local anesthetic procedures. Administers medication per physician s orders.
Responsible for narcotics count during these procedures.
Assumes the duties of the supervisor in their absence.
Currently licensed Registered Nurse with the State of Texas
Minimum of 1 year recent experience
Current BLS (ACLS/PALS0
