Job Description
Product & Production Engineer has overall responsibility for the engineering, design, testing, and certification of products. This individual provides the technical leadership for the Division and is the supervisor over two AutoCAD positions. Currently, a major emphasis of this position is on transitioning refrigeration systems from R448A and R404A refrigerants to R290. The individual in this position works closely with the Operations Manager. The Product and Production Engineer reports directly to the CEO/President of the company.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Monitors existing product designs to keep products up-to-date and in line with current technology, and improves product designs, as appropriate

Transitions existing product designs to R290 refrigeration systems

Develops new products (Research and Development), as appropriate

Provides technical leadership and guidance, including training and problem-solving, to employees
-
Oversees the handling and resolution of Customer Service issues relating to technical product issues and warranty issues

Supervises and provides guidance to two AutoCAD designers

Oversees Engineering Change Requests and Notices

Oversees the writing of Work Instructions

Improves manufacturing designs, processes, and procedures so that they meet American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Standard Y14.5

In coordination with the Operations Manager, ensures that quality controls are used in the production process and that output meets quality standards.

In coordination with the Operations Manager, ensures that production is managed in a way that maximizes all equipment and ensures that down times and excess labor costs are minimized

In coordination with the Operations Manager, implements process improvements to improve production efficiencies

In coordination with the Operations Manager, ensures that the facility and equipment are always in a clean, orderly condition.

Responsible for development and updating of product literature (installation, operation, and maintenance manuals, spec sheets, etc.)

Cooperates with others to keep the Bills of Materials up-to-date

Assists with planning the company’s involvement in various trade shows, and participating in trade shows, when appropriate. These would include the International Packaged Ice Association (IPIA) and North American Trailer Dealers Association (NATDA) shows.

Keeps up-to-date with laws, regulations, and standards of various federal agencies and other associations relevant to the refrigeration industry, and ensures that Polar Temp products adhere to these requirements (including testing requirements), as appropriate

Coordinates ETL quarterly inspections

Maintains and has some knowledge and understanding of ASHRAE, AHRI/ARI, ANSI, AHAM and other refrigeration associations that require testing to meet DOE requirements under 10CFR Part 431 Subpart C

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
-
Knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and thermodynamics
-
Minimum of 5 years combined experience in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and thermodynamics
-
Minimum of 5 years experience in the refrigeration industry (preferred)
-
EPA-approved certification in handling refrigerants (preferred)
-
Strong analytical skills
-
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
-
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
-
Knowledge and understanding of AutoCAD software
-
Initiative and willingness to take on additional responsibilities
WORK HOURS
The regular work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am through 5:00 pm, with 1 hour off for lunch.

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week regular time.
