Title: 1st Class Machinist
Responsible for set up and operating a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Fabricates, modifies, or repairs mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers or grinders.
Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
Work in the repair, installation, adjustment or maintenance of industrial production and processing machinery or refinery and pipeline distribution systems.
Set controls to regulate the machining process.
Position and fasten work pieces.
Apply knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining processes.
Maintain industrial machines; apply knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures.
Position, secure, and align cutting tools in tool holders for machines; using hand tools and verifying their positions with measuring instruments.
Repair and maintain the operating condition of industrial production and processing machinery and equipment. Align and secure holding fixtures onto machines.
Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.
Lift metal stock and work pieces manually or using hoists; position and secure them in machines using fasteners.
Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
Drive forklifts safely in order to maneuver parts or equipment as needed.
Operate overhead and jib cranes safely to maneuver parts or equipment as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Associate s Degree from a 2-year college in a Mechanical/Machining field is preferred but not required; or High school diploma or equivalent with four to six years related experience and/or training
MUST have four (4) or more years of experience in a rotating equipment or manufacturing environment.

Should be proficient in Measurement, Materials and Safety, Job Planning, Bench work and Layout, Manual Milling, Manual Turning between Centers, Manual turning with Chucking, Manual Surface Grinding, Manual Drill Press Operations, and CNC Operations.
The majority of the time in this position requires standing in one place for several hours and using your hands to and fingers to hold and maneuver parts and/or equipment. Reaching with hands and arms to maneuver parts and/or equipment. Climbing or balancing on platforms to handle or maneuver parts and/or equipment. This position mostly uses close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less). Able to lift 50 pounds. May be required to assist with field service jobs which would involve climbing, walking, crawling, long periods of time standing or working in small spaces. May be required to work in adverse working environment including but not limited to intense heat, cold, windy, dusty and dirty conditions.
