Street department Laborer
or
Waste Water Department Laborer
Primary Responsibilities:
• Perform grounds maintenance tasks including mowing grass, edging curbs and sidewalks, weed eating, and upkeep of right-of-way areas.
• Maintain various plants, trim hedges and trees, ensuring their health and appearance.
• Repair and maintain drainage ways, catch basins, curbs, and gutters; clean storm drain structures; and perform digging of ditches and trenches as needed.
• Address street repairs such as pothole patching with asphalt, installation and repair of culverts and driveways, and assisting with concrete pouring and form setting.
• Paint pavement markings and striping to ensure clear traffic guidance.
• Install and maintain street and traffic signs for safety and compliance.
• Assist in the installation and maintenance of storm sewers and drainage lines.
• Operate a variety of landscaping and street maintenance equipment proficiently.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of restrooms in community buildings, restocking paper supplies and soap, and clearing clogged drains.
• Support setup of community centers for events, including moving furniture and equipment, setting up gaming equipment, and post-event cleanup.
• Perform landscaping duties such as trash and debris removal from sidewalks and parking lots.
• Conduct routine repairs on building fixtures, furniture, and structures, including light bulb replacement, minor part replacements, and painting assistance.
• Aid in the maintenance of public pool and splash pad facilities.
• Regularly maintain vehicles, equipment, and tools used in daily operations.
• Assist in demolition and removal of illegally dumped items as directed by the Code Enforcement department.
• Collaborate with other departments on maintenance tasks as needed.
Supervision Received and Exercised:
• Works under close supervision and direction of assigned supervisors.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• High school diploma or GED required.
• No prior experience necessary.
• Valid Class C driver's license in the State of Texas (Class B preferred).
• May require specific licenses or certifications depending on departmental assignment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
• General knowledge of tools, materials, and equipment used in recreation facility and ground maintenance.
• Basic understanding of building trades materials, equipment, tools, and techniques.
• Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions.
• Physical ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods in various weather conditions.
• Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in operating machinery and equipment.
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with colleagues and the public.
Physical Demands:
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and exert physical effort daily.
• Regular activities include standing, walking, using hands, reaching, and occasional bending, kneeling, and lifting.
• Work environment may include moderate noise levels.
Additional Details:
• Required Education: High School Diploma / GED
• Required Experience: None required; entry-level position
• License or Certificate: Valid Texas Driver's License (Class C required; Class B preferred)
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 10-50 lbs.; work involves heavy physical exertion
