Consumer Lending Manager
Job Description
Location: Houston - Westchase
Summary:
Responsible for overseeing direct and indirect consumer lending operations and supervising Loan Department staff to support the Credit Union's strategic goals. Provides leadership in underwriting, loan operations, quality control, staff development, sales performance, and compliance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead daily direct and indirect lending operations, ensuring efficient workflow, timely processing, quality control, and issue resolution.
Supervise, coach, develop, and evaluate Loan Department staff through regular feedback, training, performance reviews, and career development.
Serve as senior underwriter with maximum lending authority, reviewing and approving consumer, mortgage/home equity, direct, and indirect loan applications.
Review loan approvals and denials to ensure sound underwriting decisions and portfolio quality.
Partner with the Chief Lending Officer to develop consumer lending programs and recommend policy and procedure updates.
Collaborate with Operations and Marketing to develop lending promotions and sales campaigns.
Monitor economic conditions, competitor rates, and market trends to recommend pricing and program changes.
Promote cross-selling of Credit Union products and services while supporting sales initiatives across lending.
Prepare monthly underwriting and production reports; analyze lending, pipeline, and sales performance using Excel.
Conduct staff meetings, lending training, and cross-department coaching, including virtual meetings through Microsoft Teams.
Counsel members on loan options and adverse action decisions while resolving escalated member and staff concerns.
Work with leadership to improve operational efficiency, maintain regulatory compliance, and strengthen lending processes.
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and internal quality standards.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience in consumer lending, mortgage/home equity lending, direct and indirect lending operations, and sales/lending training.
Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
Strong knowledge of underwriting, lending regulations, and loan operations.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams.
Ability to analyze financial reports, interpret regulations, and communicate effectively with members, staff, and regulators.
Eligible to obtain and maintain NMLS registration or licensing, as required.
Valid driver's license and eligibility for company vehicle insurance.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises Loan Department employees, including hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, performance management, disciplinary actions, and employee development in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
