Job Description

AutoCAD Plant 3D Designer – Water Treatment Systems
A Houston-based engineering and manufacturing organization is seeking an AutoCAD Plant 3D Designer to join its engineering and manufacturing team. This role focuses on developing and maintaining accurate piping models, layouts, drawings, and documentation for water treatment equipment and containerized systems.

The designer will work closely with project engineers and the fabrication team from initial layouts through production, testing, and shipment. A mechanical engineering background is welcome, but an engineering degree is not required.
Key Responsibilities

  • Create and update 3D piping and equipment models in AutoCAD Plant 3D for water treatment skids, containers, and related systems.

  • Produce P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, piping layouts, isometric drawings, and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD Plant 3D and AutoCAD.

  • Develop and maintain drawing packages, line lists, equipment tags, and bills of materials, keeping models and drawings consistent as designs change.

  • Coordinate piping routes, component locations, access, clearances, and constructability with project engineers, vendors, and the fabrication team.

  • Incorporate design reviews, customer comments, and shop feedback into revised models and issued drawings.

  • Check drawings for dimensions, connections, materials, and consistency with project specifications and P&IDs.

  • Support fabrication and assembly by answering drawing questions, resolving fit-up issues, and documenting approved changes.

  • Maintain organized project files and drawing revisions and assist with as-built documentation after fabrication and testing.
Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on proficiency with AutoCAD Plant 3D, including 3D piping models and production drawings.

  • Ability to read and prepare P&IDs, piping layouts, general arrangement drawings, and isometrics.

  • Experience with industrial piping, mechanical equipment, or skid-mounted systems and an understanding of fabrication practices.

  • Strong attention to detail, drawing organization, and revision control.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams on multiple projects.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of relevant Plant 3D design or mechanical drafting experience.

  • Degree or technical training in mechanical engineering, drafting, CAD, or a related field. An engineering degree is a plus, not a requirement.

  • Experience with reverse osmosis, desalination, filtration, pumps, valves, pressure vessels, or instrumentation.

  • Experience preparing bills of materials and shop or as-built drawing packages.

  • Bilingual skills are preferred.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who enjoys turning process concepts into clear, buildable 3D models and drawings. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with both the design team and the shop floor and is interested in learning more about water treatment systems.
