Staff Accountant I
Job Description
Responsibilities involves preparing or supervising the preparation of financial statements, records, documents, or reports. Will specialize in a phase of accounts payable, such as federal funds accounting, property and equipment control, cost, or bond servicing. Requires limited supervision and exercises discretion and independent judgment in matters of significance as related to the general business operations of the agency. Performs other relevant duties as assigned.
Primary Duties:
Accounting Function
- Prepares financial statements with schedules and exhibits.
- Prepares complex technical reports such as those dealing with estimates, expenditure data and budget items.
- Prepares status analysis of funds and expenditures, including WSA Board reports.
- Prepares various reports, such as those dealing with federal grants, regulations, and statistics, as required.
- Maintains adequate records of expenditures, funds, appropriations, and expenses, as well as revenue collected and deposited.
- Assists in planning procedures and regulations to control the disbursement of allocated funds, preparing letters of instruction, manual revisions, and related forms as necessary.
- Maintains accounting records on expenditures and revenue collected, the preparation of journal entries.
- Maintains vendor information (enters W-9 information in accounting system).
- Processes purchase requisitions and purchase orders; obtain quotations; enters data and information into the system and routes them appropriately for approval; obtains signatures and place orders.
- Reconciles receipt of goods/services with purchase orders, compares shipping documents to purchase orders; verifies pricing; research discrepancies; tracks back orders; submits signed shipping documents/invoices to the Fiscal department for processing; delivers supplies to staff.
- Monitors general office supplies and initiates purchase requests to replenish general office supply stock; maintains supply room for easy access to most frequently requested supplies.
- Associated Degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration Minimum of 12 hours Accounting Courses
- Minimum of 1-3 years of full-time experience in accounting.
